Good for the teeth

We've always heard that coffee, tea and red wine, among other things, discolour our teeth, and that's right.

Here are our tips for which foods help preserve both the strength and whiteness of the teeth:

Strawberry

Don't be fooled by the color. Strawberries contain malic acid and act as a natural bleaching agent.

Nuts

Both nuts and seeds act as an abrasive on the teeth, helping to remove plaque.

Carrots

Carrot helps to stimulate saliva production, because it requires thorough chewing. The saliva then helps to neutralize enzymes and acid that occurs in the mouth when, for example, you eat sugary food.

Broccoli

Broccoli is rich in fibre, and helps to sharpen the teeth.

Garlic

Garlic prevents the activity of many different bacteria in the oral cavity.

Milk & Yoghurt

Yoghurt and milk contain lactic acid and the enamel-strengthening mineral calcium, which both whitens and strengthens the teeth.

Straw

If you drink a lot of soft drinks and other drinks with a lot of acid, it's a good idea to use a straw. Then there will be less contact between what you drink and your teeth.
